How accessible are you rooms/apartments for those with mobility issues

The Welbeck is on a hill- but don’t let that put you off! Because we are off the promenade, we benefit from the quiet street and sea views from most rooms. All ground floor facilities are accessible by ramp from the street to the front door of the main ‘Welbeck’ building – Restaurant, Bar, and disabled toilet with baby changing facilities.

Rooms

The ‘Hotel’ is made up of 2 Victorian buildings. The George family bought the Welbeck in 1978, and bought next door ‘Bella Casa Hotel’ in 1994, meaning there are quirky corridors to navigate due to the amalgamation of the buildings.

In 1987, we installed our somewhat ‘bijou’ lift, which was all that was viable at the time, space-wise. Although ‘classic’, the lift works extremely well but it is small, and some larger wheelchairs may not fit but can be left downstairs.

With our refurbishments, we have installed walk-in showers in 5 rooms, and there is a ‘wet room’ on the first floor in 101.

Whilst we are restricted with the Victorian infrastructure, please let us know of your requirements, and we will always do our best to accommodate your needs.

Apartments

Our Self-Catering apartments, formerly ‘The Granada Hotel’, has it’s own separate entrance but you can access from the bar area within the Hotel itself. There are stairs to negotiate up to the front door, and then a flight up to the small lift.

When we bought the apartment block in the early 2000s, we set to work on the lift shaft which is at the back of the building leaving enough room before the cliff face to satisfy fire regulations, meaning it stops between floors. Ideal? Probably not, but it works well.

Therefore depending on your capability, it may not be appropriate for those mobility issues.

Are you open to the public?

Where can I park?

You can usually park within 70-80 metres outside of the hotel. Street parking around the Hotel is free and unrestricted. There are only three houses on our part of Mona Drive, so the hill acts as a good overflow during busy periods. Unfortunately there is no car park as the area was built in Victorian times.

When parking elsewhere, please be mindful of restrictions in parking ‘zones’. You may need a ‘Parking Disc’ which Reception may have, or available at any petrol station or the Sea Terminal Welcome Centre. There are car parks dotted around Douglas, and information can be found here.
