We had our first charity fundraiser on Saturday 2nd March, celebrating the 200th year of the fantastic Lifeboats organisation, of which it’s founder Sir William Hillary called the Isle of Man home. Although he was not Manx born, he was a proud Douglas resident who bore witness to too many shipwrecks in British waters. It was Sir William who sought Royal Assent for the cause, and in 1824, officiated the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. I am extremely proud to say that we raised a total of £1,114.oo for this fantastic cause. For many demands to do another next year, we may just have to as it was a successful sell-out.
Mark Falconer was kind enough to take photographs for us (see below).
The fantastic Shenanigans Banned who performed an excellent set, everyone singing along and created a wonderful atmosphere; and Rosalie, the Purple Haired Magician, left everyone in amazement with her fantastic table magic.
Thanks to all who brought raffle prizes with them, and the following businesses who were kind enough to donate prizes:
Isle of Man Post Office – for also providing the decorative post stamps around the hotel, MotaWorld, Aces Bouncy Castles, Manx Loaghtan Produce, The Fynoderee Distillery.
Thanks also to Clare Barber – MHK for Douglas East who took care of reading out the raffle winners!
